I SAW A PLAY, ONCE. . .

"Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde"
produced by and at BoHo Theatre

Chicago
Aug 23, 2007

Not Bad.
However, the Protagonist (the court and its officers) was not very active and was overrun by the Antagonist (the plaintiff and the defendant, et al.). There was no particularly heroic action taken by the Protagonist, consequently there wasn't much of a Drama. Interesting staging. Interesting dialogue. Interesting directing. Interesting possibilities. The real Drama was just not uncovered. No, Wilde was not a Protagonist, and pity is not an element of Drama.
